BEIJING (Sputnik) — A gas leak at a chemical plant in northwestern China killed one person and injured 31 others, 18 of them critically, local media reported Thursday.
The incident occurred at around 7 p.m. local time on Wednesday (11:00 a.m.) in the Jimsar county in Xinjiang’s Changji Hui prefecture, according to the CCTV television channel.
A rescue operation was ordered by local authorities immediately after the emergency, the broadcaster reported. All those injured have been taken to hospital. The cause of the leak is being investigated.
