MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Saturday, the Polish Senate approved a controversial bill that would allow to send the nation's Supreme Court judges into retirement as well as two other bills last week as part of the judicial overhaul, sparking mass protests across the country.
"Big money and influence stand behind this [protests]. These are media conglomerates, banks and international corporations. These powers are now intervening in the situation in Poland," Waszczykowski said as broadcast by local television.
Polish opposition parties and some European leaders "did not accept" the results of presidential and parliamentary elections in Poland, the foreign minister stressed.
"We see attempts to overthrow the government. The question of courts, reforms… is only an excuse," Waszczykowski noted.
On July 19, the European Commission discussed Poland's judicial reforms in the course of a meeting in Brussels drawing a conclusion that these reforms would have a very negative impact on the judiciary and would threaten the rule of law in the country.
