US Senate Committee May Compel Testimony From Trump Jr., Manafort on Russia
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Donald Trump Jr. and former presidential campaign manager Paul Manafort have agreed to provide the US Senate Judiciary Committee with documents and be interviewed prior to a public hearing, Chairman Chuck Grassley and Ranking Member Diane Feinstein said in a joint statement.

"Both Donald Trump, Jr. and Paul Manafort, through their attorneys, have agreed to negotiate to provide the committee with documents and be interviewed by committee members and staff prior to a public hearing. Therefore, we will not issue subpoenas for them tonight requiring their presence at Wednesday’s hearing but reserve the right to do so in the future," the statement said on Friday.

Earlier this month, US media reported that Trump, Jr. met in June 2016 with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, expecting that she would present a sensitive information about Hillary Clinton. Trump Jr. has said that the conversation focused solely on the problem of the adoption of Russian children by US nationals.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is probing Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 US election.

Russian officials have repeatedly denied the allegations of meddling in US elections, calling them absurd and created to deflect public opinion from pressing domestic issues.
