WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Air Force has awarded Lockheed Martin a more than $74 million contract to keep its C-130J Hercules military airlift fleet fully maintained and operational, the Department of Defense said in a press release.

"Lockheed Martin Corporation [of] Marietta, Georgia has been awarded a… $74,695,578… contract for C-130J long-term sustainment," the report stated on Friday.

Services to be provided under the contract will include program sustainment support, inventory control, consumable spares replenishment, repairs, sustaining engineering, technical data, and depot activation in support of the C‐130J weapon system, the Defense Department explained.

The C-130-J Super-Hercules is a crucial military air transport that can land on small improvised airfields in all environments around the world. The aircraft has been in operational service since 1999 and the basic Hercules C-130 operation design has been in service for more than 60 years.
