MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — Two other marines were injured in the operation to bust a criminal ring led by a man nicknamed "El Bukanas," which has been stealing fuel by drilling taps into pipelines.

Jose Antonio Gonzalez Anaya, the chief of the state petroleum giant Pemex, has estimated revenue losses to theft at an annual $1.1 billion. In 2010, an illegal attempt to tap a pipeline in Pueblo resulted in a blast that killed 29 people.
