US Senate Judiciary Committee in a letter to the Departments of State and Homeland Security requested additional information about a Russian-born lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin, who reportedly participated in a meeting with Donald Trump Jr. at The Trump Tower in June 2016.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The committee also asked whether the lobbyist has been ever denied a visa in the past and what were conditions for that.

"In order for the Committee to determine the veracity of Rinat Akhmetshin's filings and more fully understand his immigration history, please answer the following questions," the letter stated on Tuesday. "Did Akhmetshin apply for any US visa?…What category of visa was sought?"

In addition, the senators requested documents related to Akhmetshin's employment activity in the United States and his all applications for immigrant or non-immigrant visas.

Last week, NBC News reported that a former Soviet counterintelligence officer, later identified as Rinat Akhmetshin, was present at the meeting with President Donald Trump's son along with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 US presidential election campaign.

Russia has repeatedly denied meddling in the November 8 election and stressed Moscow never interferes in foreign affairs of foreign states.
