Foreign Residents Increase Holdings of US Securities by $95.5Bln in May

The United States remained a popular target for foreign investors in May, with net purchase of long-term US securities approaching $100 billion, the US Treasury Department said in a report.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The sum total all foreign acquisitions of long-term securities, short-term US securities, and bank deposits resulted in a net international capital inflow of $57.3 billion, the report explained.

"Foreign residents increased their holdings of long-term US securities in May; net purchases were $95.5 billion," the report stated on Tuesday.
