Nearly half of respondents of an opinion poll conducted by ABC News and the Washington Post in the US said that they do not trust President Donald Trump when asked about his negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Almost a half of US citizens do not trust President Donald Trump in holding negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a new poll revealed on Sunday.

According to a poll conducted for ABC News and the Washington Post, two out of three respondents said they do not trust the president much when asked about Trump-Putin talks, including 48 percent who did not trust "at all." One third of the respondents, however, said that they trust their leader "a great deal" or "a good amount"  in any interstate negotiations, according to the poll.

The poll reportedly revealed that 60 percent of US citizens believe in Russia's alleged meddling in the US elections, which is four percent more since April, and 44 percent think that Trump benefited from this interference.

Trump's public approval rating lowered to 36 percent from April's 42 percent, the poll showed.

The survey was conducted on July 10-13 with 1,001 adult respondents interviewed by phone.
