Military cadets from the US and the UK are undergoing some of their final training at joint military exercises at Washington’s Hohenfels and Grafenwoehr bases in Germany.

Instructors will be evaluating the troops’ fitness as they attempt to become officers after the Dynamic Victory exercise, set to take place from July 8 to July 21. Using vehicles and equipment from NATO and US allies, cadets will conduct tactical insertions, urban combat simulations and live-fire drills.

Chief instructor Maj. Alex Ficke from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) said the troops "are training for ‘a war’ not ‘the’ war," according to Stars and Stripes

"With the future nature of conflict, the [cadets] need to be exposed to working in a multinational environment and with assets and agencies from different NATO and coalition partners," he explained.

"Dynamic Victory is the senior terms confirmation exercise, it's their final exercise," RMAS instructor Capt. Richard Grimsdell described said in a 2015 article on the US Army website. "So everything they've done up till now boils down to a two-week package. They get tested on everything they've done from absolutely basic soldiering that they learned all that time ago to complex training all the way up to company level, finally finishing with a battle-group level attack."

"Once the cadets finish this exercise…  they're on the verge of graduation and commissioning," he said.
