WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Russian citizen Yuriy Martyshev, who was extradited from Latvia to the United States, pleaded not guilty in US federal court on Friday to charges of cyber fraud, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the court.
Martyshev appeared before Judge Liam O’Grady for an arraignment in Alexandria, Virginia. Latvian resident Ruslan Bondar, who is suspected of acting together with Martyshev, also pleaded not guilty.
The defendant's attorney Gary Smith stated during the hearing that Martyshev was innocent.
On July 6, a US federal judge in the state of Virginia charged Martyshev with four counts of cyber crime, including committing wire fraud, accessing computers without an authorization, and aiding cyber attacks.
Russian diplomats visited Martyshev in jail last week and noted that he was detained in normal conditions.
The Russian embassy said the defendent was apprehended in Latvia in violation of the US Treaty with Russia on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters signed in 1999.
