Hi, It's Petya, Now Give Me Your Money

On Tuesday, a global ransomware attack hit numerous computers in several countries, inflicting particularly severe damage to IT systems of government authorities, state and commercial companies, airports and media. The malware blocked computers and demanded $300 in bitcoin currency.

The malware, called Petya, was first identified in March 2016. Security researchers said on Tuesday that it appears to be spreading on the same exploit as the WannaCry ransomware that took down hundreds of thousands of computers worldwide last month.
