TUESDAY: The UK Labour Party officially launches its campaign for June’s General Election; commemorations take place in Scotland for Victory Day, and fears of increasing right-wing extremism amongst German soldiers.

30 days to go till the snap UK General Election in June, and it’s a day of mixed fortunes on the campaign trail — with Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party launching its official campaign in Manchester, whilst the opinion polls still show he has a mountain to climb if he wants to take on Theresa May’s Conservatives.

The head of Germany's armed forces has ordered that all barracks be searched after Nazi-era memorabilia was found in a garrison. The discovery was made at a barracks in Donaueschingen, in Germany's south west, and it comes amid growing concerns about right-wing extremism among some of the country's soldiers.

It is one of the least well known aspects of World War Two, but a commemoration taking place today, near the Scottish village of Errol, seeks to remember one of the most important aspects of Russian-British military co-operation of the entire conflict.
