The Russian National Guard said Monday it has launched first ever snap combat readiness inspections in its nearly one-year history.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — It noted that the first inspection is taking place at the Central Federal District and will follow in Russia's seven other federal districts.

"The sudden readiness check is being held from March 13, 2017, at the decision of the director of the Federal National Guard Troops Service… Army Gen. Viktor Zolotov," the National Guard said.

President Vladimir Putin established the National Guard in April 2016.
