GENEVA (Sputnik) – On Friday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced he had authorized the Iraqi Air Force to conduct strikes against Daesh in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province.
"The strategy of the Iraqi security forces is to fight Daesh as long as they present a threat to the national security of the Iraqi side … but as long as they present or they hold a threat to the Iraqi national security we will continue pursue and eliminate members of Daesh at any territories," Jaafari said.
He added that the logic of protection of Iraq from the terrorists and not foreign intervention was behind the decision.
