Terrorist attacks in Pakistan have dropped by 60 percent in 2016 following the introduction of the National Action Plan to crack down on terrorism the preceding year, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz told Sputnik on Monday.

KARACHI (Sputnik) – In 2015, the Pakistani government established the National Action Plan to crack down on terrorism and to supplement the ongoing anti-terrorist offensive with long-term measures against extremism.

"The incidents of terrorist attacks in Pakistan were 60 percent less than in the preceding year. We are now in better control of the situation. In this process we acquired experience that we are ready to share with other countries," Aziz said.

Pakistan's National Action Plan includes terrorism funding prevention measures, reforms in the criminal justice sector and the build-up of law enforcement agencies’ capacity.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is ready to increase intelligence sharing within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and hopes cooperation in this sector will increase, Sartaj Aziz, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s adviser on foreign affairs, told Sputnik on Monday.

"The mechanism of the intelligence sharing has been worked out. Pakistan's entry to SCO will be very helpful because one of the priority areas for SCO is counterterrorism. We hope that with the help of this mechanism, the intelligence cooperation will increase," Aziz said.
