Mitch McConnell said that President Donald Trump should not lift the existing sanctions imposed on Russia.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in an interview with Politico that President Donald Trump should not lift the existing sanctions imposed on Russia.

"I’m against lifting any sanctions on the Russians," McConnell stated on Friday. "If there’s any country in the world that doesn’t deserve sanctions relief, it’s Russia."

Trump is scheduled to talk with with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the telephone on Saturday.

Earlier on Friday, Trump said in response to a question that it is too early to be talking about lifting the anti-Russia sanctions, but his senior counselor Kellyanne Conway said lifting the sanctions is under consideration.
