The International Biathlon Union asked the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU)to submit a report on the seven Russian athletes suspected of doping and currently under investigation, whose fate would be decided at the next session of the IBU's Extraordinary Executive Board (EB).

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The next EB Meeting will take place on February 9th to make further decisions before the WCH.

"In addition, the IBU will open formal investigation against the RBU. The RBU is to provide the IBU with a detailed and fully documented report with respect to the seven cases under investigation," the IBU's press release, issued on Saturday, said.

The IBU said that for all its upcoming events it would automatically include all RBU athletes in the IBU Registered Testing Pool.

The agency also said that it would consider calling an Extraordinary IBU Congress.

The IBU opened its investigation into 31 Russian athletes in December 2016, after it had received the list with the names of suspects from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The World Anti-Doping Agency investigation team released a report on alleged doping scheme in Russia in July 2016, with the resulting doping scandal bringing about a great number of disqualifications for the Russian team at both Olympic and Paralympic games in Brazil. The second part of the report was made public in December.
