The US House of Representatives approved the waiver necessary to allow retired Gen. James Mattis to serve as Secretary of Defense.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US House of Representatives approved on Friday the waiver necessary to allow retired Gen. James Mattis to serve as Secretary of Defense despite the fact he has not been relieved from duty for seven years.

The waiver passed with a vote of 268-151.
