Spokesman of the US-led coalition Col. John Dorrian confirmed that three Daesh leaders were killed in the airstrikes.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition airstrikes in the area around the Iraqi city of Mosul have recently killed three Islamic State, also known as Daesh leaders, Coalition spokesman Col. John Dorrian said on Wednesday.

"I can confirm the deaths of Imad Abdullah Hamud al-Mahallawi, Abu Turk and Falah al-Rashidi," Dorrian told reporters.

Rashidi was killed December 4 in Mosul and involved in the Daesh’s use of vehicle borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs) against Iraqi Security Forces and civilians.

Al-Mahallawi, killed December 21, was a "legacy al-Qaeda Iraq member" serving as an Daesh leader.

Dorrian argued during the briefing that al-Mahallawi's death will hurt the Daesh’s ability to conduct spoiler attacks in the outlying areas of Iraq and Syria.

Daesh financial facilitator Abu Turk was killed on December 4 while fighting from a rooftop position in Shirqat.

Dorrian noted that Abu Turk’s death would further pressure the Daesh’s financial network.
