Russia's long-range aviation, a branch of Russian Aerospace Forces tasked with bombardment of strategic targets with nuclear weapons, is directly involved in maintaining the nuclear parity.

This year, the division celebrates 102 years since its creation in 1914, when Emperor Nicholas II approved the formation of a squadron of aircraft named 'Ilya Muromets' (Igor Sikorsky design).
