UEFA Nominates Russian Deputy Prime Minister Mutko to FIFA Council

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has included Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Football Union President Vitaly Mutko in the list of the candidates for the European member seats in the Council of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), the UEFA said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) According to the UEFA website, UEFA also put the presidents of the Football Associations of Hungary, Sandor Csyani, Cyprus, Costakis Koutsokoumnis, Montenegro, Dejan Savicevic, and Iceland, Geir Thorsteinsson on the list of candidates for the FIFA Council.

The elections to the FIFA Council will be held on April 5 in Helsinki within the framework of the 41st UEFA Congress. Four candidates will be elected for a four-year term. The sole defeated candidate will be able to compete for the seat available for the two-year term, which became vacant as a result of the resignation of Wolfgang Niersbach, the former president of the German Football Association. The deadline for filing the applications for the seat is set for January 5.

Besides, eight members of the UEFA Executive Committee will be elected during the UEFA Congress in Helsinki. The deadline for submitting the applications is set for January 5.
