May to Carefully Consider Scotland's Post-Brexit Single Market Proposal
MOSCOW (Sputnik) The detailed proposals on Brexit will be unveiled in early 2017, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said Tuesday.

"We have also said we will publish more information about our approach before Article 50 is triggered. I will be making a speech early in the new year setting out more about our approach and about the opportunity I think we have as a country to use this process to forge a truly global Britain that embraces and trades with countries across the world," May said, repletion to the questions of the Liaison Committee.

The UK prime minister stressed that the Brexit negotiations would be held in accordance with a timetable set in the treaty.

"I fully expect us to be able to operate on the timetable that has been set out in the treaty, obviously as we go into the negotiations that is a matter for the negotiations," May explained.

She emphasized that it was important to "understand the wider meaning of the referendum result and respond accordingly," as it was not just a vote but a chance to change the country.

The Liaison Committee is a select committee of the UK House of Commons, the lower house of the parliament, advising the House on general matters relating to the work of select committees.

In June, the United Kingdom voted in a referendum to leave the European Union. Soon after the referendum, May said the country would trigger the Article 50 of the EU Lisbon Treaty by the end of March 2017, thus beginning the withdrawal negotiations.
