A mechanic that was detained on a farm in Northern Ireland building what could have become the biggest bomb ever used in the region was given an 11-year jail term, UK media reported on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Barry Petticrew, 45, was arrested in October 2014 on a farm in Fermanagh County, Northern Ireland. The farm was transformed into a workshop for building bombs.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) found high-grade explosives, pipes, timer units and ammunition during the search of the property, The Guardian reported. The newspaper added that the explosives found at the farm were enough to build the largest bomb ever in the region before or after the Troubles, the ethno-nationalist conflict in Northern Ireland that took place in the second half of the 20th century.

The 1968-1998 Anglo-Irish conflict killed more than 3,500 victims and left a further 47,500 people injured in what was one of the bloodiest counter-insurgencies fought in Europe since the end of World War II.
