Daily Fail: British Newspaper Blasted for Russian Ambassador Assassination Tweet

A rather inconsiderate tweet made by Daily Mail regarding the shocking assassination of Russian ambassador to Turkey sparked a barrage of criticism in social media.

While other media outlets focused on apparently mundane and trivial things like the killer’s motive or the potential consequences of the assassination, Daily Mail opted to report the thing that really matters – the assassin’s dressing style.

"Russian ambassador shot by a smartly dressed man in a suit and tie," the newspaper tweeted.

​But for some reason, a growing number of social media users appear to be less than amused by Daily Mail’s approach.

"So now we're concerned with what terrorists are wearing when they murder someone?  Really?!" one of them inquired.

​"Because when I see someone assassinated I want to ask the assailant, "Who are you wearing???!" quipped another.

​"Have you found out how much his suit costs yet? or what diet he follows to stay so slim??" asked the third.

​Other Twitter users chose to dispense with sarcasm and openly express their disgust.

​On Monday, December 19, Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was shot dead by Turkish police officer Mevlut Mert Altintas at an art gallery exhibition opening in Ankara. Three other people were also injured in the attack. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it considers the attack a terrorist act.
