Russian, Japan to Hold Year of Cultural Exchanges in 2018

Russian Culture Ministry said that Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky and his Japanese counterpart Hirokazu Matsuno have agreed to hold a year of cultural exchanges between the two countries in 2018.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky and his Japanese counterpart Hirokazu Matsuno have agreed to hold a year of cultural exchanges between the two countries in 2018, the Russian Culture Ministry said Monday.

"The culture ministers of Russia and Japan will declare 2018 the year of cultural exchanges between the countries… Medinsky… and Matsuno discussed the issues of holding the Russia-Japan cultural exchanges in 2018," the ministry said in statement, adding that the Russian minister has made such a proposal.

The respective agreement was reached within Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Japan on December 15-16.

Russian culture festivals are being held in Japan annually since 2006 and over 13.3 million people have attended these events over the last ten years, the ministry added.
