Trump Mulls Council on Foreign Relations Chief for US Deputy Secretary of State

US President-elect Donald Trump may select president of the Council on Foreign Relations Richard Haass as the number two man at the Department of State, media reported.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) —Two senior Trump transition officials claim Haass is under consideration to fill the role of Deputy Secretary of State, Politico reported on Thursday.

Haass has been the director of policy planning at the State Department for President George W. Bush and a senior director on the National Security Council in President George H.W. Bush's administration.

On Tuesday, Trump announced his intent to nominate ExxonMobil Chairman and CEO Rex Tillerson for the position of US Secretary of State.
