MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Interpol’s National Central Bureau opened in then-Soviet Moscow in 1990. At least 80 regional divisions currently operate across Russia, helping locate missing people, battle terrorism, counter drug trafficking and other crimes.
"Every year, more than 100 suspects wanted by Russian law enforcement are captured abroad when our requests are put on Interpol alert system. More than 50 people are extradited to Russia every year to face criminal charges. More than 60 have been extradited since the beginning of this year," Maj. Gen. Alexander Prokopchuk said, speaking at the International Forum of Russian Prosecutor General's Office.
Prokopchuk singled out the cooperation with Thailand's police, which have arrested more than 20 people wanted by Russian police in the past two years.
