The Trump transition team said efforts to investigate Russia's alleged interference in the US election were merely an attempt to delegitimize the Republican's victory.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The recent efforts to investigate possible Russian interference in the US 2016 election are simply an attempt to delegitimize the victory of President-elect Donald Trump, the Trump transition team told reporters on Monday.

"I think really clearly what this is, is an attempt to try to delegitimize President-elect Trump’s win," Trump spokesman Jason Miller told reporters during a phone call. "[F]irst after the election it was the recount nonsense, then was discussions of the popular vote, now it’s anonymous, off-the-record sources with conflicting information trying to raise other issues."

Russia Willing to Work With Trump to Eliminate Daesh 'as Soon as Possible'
On Friday, the Washington Post reported, citing unnamed sources, that the CIA believed Russia sought to influence the 2016 presidential election in Trump’s favor.

On Sunday, a bipartisan group of US Senators announced a plan to establish a special congressional committee to investigate potential Russian interference.

Moscow has repeatedly denied any interference in the vote, calling the allegations absurd and an attempt to distract US voters from pressing domestic issues.
