Trump: Democrats Accused Us of Conspiracy Theories, Now Promote Them

President-elect Donald Trump is continuing his dismissal of claims that Russia hacked the Democratic National Convention on his behalf, asserting that if things were the other way around, and the GOP blamed a loss on shadowy Russian hackers, they would be labeled conspiracy theorists.

On Monday, Trump tweeted on the absurdity of the accusations.

“Can you imagine if the election results were the opposite and WE tried to play the Russia/CIA card,” Trump tweeted on Monday. “It would be called conspiracy theory!”

Trump asserted that it is very difficult to determine who is responsible for a hack, unless they are caught ‘red-handed.’

“Unless you catch ‘hackers’ in the act, it is very hard to determine who was doing the hacking,” Trump tweeted. “Why wasn’t this brought up before election?"

While groups supporting Hillary Clinton pushed claims that “scary Russians” were behind the hacks, the intelligence community remained quiet on the issue until after Trump was elected.

Trump’s tweets echo his stance on Clinton’s September claims, issues he addressed during the presidential debates.

“I don’t think anybody knows it was Russia that broke into the DNC. She’s saying, ‘Russia, Russia, Russia.’ but I don’t — maybe it was,” Trump said. “It could also be China. It could also be lots of other people. It also could be somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds, OK?” Trump declared.

Monday’s tweets come as dozens of think-pieces condemn the President-elect for his questioning of the intelligence community over their assertions of Russian involvement, ironically as the outgoing Senate minority leader Harry Reid is simultaneously accusing FBI Director James Comey of covering up foreign hacking to help Trump win.

“The FBI had this material for a long time but Comey, who is of course a Republican, refused to divulge specific information about Russia and the presidential election,” Reid told MSNBC’s AM Joy on Saturday.

Reid has called for an investigation into the FBI director, despite Comey being lauded as a hero after he declined to recommend charges against Clinton.

“I think he should be investigated by the Senate. He should be investigated by other agencies of the government including the security agencies because if ever there was a matter of security it’s this … I don’t think any of us understood how partisan Comey was,” Reid asserted.

Trump’s transition team has commented on the veracity of reports by the US security apparatus, saying, "These are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.”
