Tehran is interested in the presence of Russian energy companies in Iran, and certain agreements are expected to be signed soon, Iran's Ambassador in Moscow Mehdi Sanai said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Sanai told Rossiya 24 television channel:

"Iran is very much interested in the presence of Russian companies in Iran. Several companies have visited Iran repeatedly, signed memorandums of understanding."

He in particular named LUKoil, Rosneft, Tatneft, Zarubezhneft and Gazprom.

"Many of them signed documents, some will be signed soon," Sanai said.

He also said that phone talks of the Russian and Iranian presidents partly influenced the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) reaching the agreement to cut oil output.

"What happened in OPEC is partly the result of Iranian-Russian cooperation. Our presidents had a phone conversation on the eve of the OPEC meeting. This also partially influenced the result and prompted OPEC to reach the agreement," Sanai said.

On December 10, OPEC finished a meeting with non-OPEC countries in Vienna, where non-OPEC countries decided to cut oil output by 558,000 barrels per day with Russia cutting the output by 300,000 barrels per day from January. In November, OPEC agreed to cut oil production by 1.2 million barrels per day for the whole cartel.
