Effective working relations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov do not depend on media reports, German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said Monday.

BERLIN (Sputnik) — On Friday, Sergei Lavrov said German media reports about Russia's alleged attempts to destabilize the situation in Germany were nonsense at a press conference on the sidelines of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) meeting in Hamburg. Lavrov added that German media were the first when it came to Russophobia.

"Our contacts and bilateral relations in all the spheres related to Germany and Russia — bilateral relations, European politics, global issues of world politics — will go on with the Russian foreign minister, and it does not depend on you or others honestly or dishonestly assessing what on Friday, or earlier or in the future Sergei Lavrov said or will say," Schaefer said, answering a question regarding Lavrov's statements.

Schaefer noted that the Russian foreign minister had had good working relations with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier over the last three years, as well as with his predecessors.
