MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Gazprom added that the two companies were planning to develop special methods to treat insulation blankets of pipelines as well as special equipment to explore oil wells and to operate underground gas storage facilities.

"In particular, the document implies creation of an innovative mobile laser technological system for liquidation of oil and petroleum products spills, including in the conditions of the Arctic region," the statement said.

The Arctic shelf is believed to hold enormous deposits of oil and natural gas. According to Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources, the total value of energy resources concentrated in Russia's Arctic region exceeds $30 trillion. Ministerial experts predict that in the future, Russian oil and gas production will be mainly concentrated on the Arctic sea shelves.
