VIENNA (Sputnik) — The plan for the 2017 joint action was signed on Friday by the Russian Ministry of Culture and Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria.

"We declared the next year Russia-Austria Tourism Year. The agreement stipulates continuous cooperation," Medinsky said.

The minister added  that the agreement includes organization of exhibitions, theater exchanges, film weeks and is only a starting point in the cultural cooperation between the two countries.

"We have ideas of further development which may take form of an Art Year, Music Year, Theater Exchange Year with Austria.  Vienna is a cultural capital of Europe so historically the relationship we are having for 5 hundred years always concerned not only political and economic but also cultural issues," Medinsky said.

The minister stressed that Russia and Austria have a firm base for cultural cooperation regardless of current political circumstances.  Two countries are going to declare 2018 Russia-Austria Music year and are working upon development of Russian-Austrian youth exchanges in 2019.
