US Naval forces Korea commander Rear Adm. Brad Cooper and South Korean deputy naval operations chief Rear Adm. Chung Jung-soo held the navies’ ninth strategic dialogue at the US headquarters in Busan to discuss cooperation and the combined naval partnership, the US Navy said in a press release.

WASHINGTON, December 9 (Sputnik) — The talks are part of larger cooperation efforts that include joint naval exercises and non-military events such as ceremonies and community relations project, the US Navy stated.

"The Strategic Dialogue is a cornerstone of our relationship… The region is dynamic, the challenges are constant and the threats are real; but this dialogue is the perfect venue to discuss our mutual way forward to ensure both navies remain shoulder-to-shoulder in strategy and future operations," Cooper stated on Thursday.

The dialogue involved discussions on readiness, force development and infrastructure, Chun noted.

The United States and South Korea are strong partners in the region and have worked to enhance bilateral cooperation against the shared threat posed by North Korea.

In October, US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said the two militaries plan to increase both naval and cyber cooperation in the coming months.
