The Pentagon hid a study from the government last year that showed it had wasted $125 million on bureaucracy after claiming deep military budget cuts left it without funds, US media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The 77-page report by McKinsey consultancy was to improve the US Defense Ministry’s efficiency by pointing out where it could save up to invest into combat operation, the Washington Post reported.

Instead, the inquiry revealed the Pentagon used a chunk of its $580-billion budget to maintain a back-office team of full-time workers and pricey contractors almost as huge as troops on active duty they supported.

The military quickly removed the report from Pentagon’s Defense Business Board website and imposed secrecy restrictions on the data used in it to avoid possible cuts to the budget.

The US media outlet suggested that the study could be of interest to US President-elect Donald Trump who promised during his election campaign to pay for his expensive military plans by downsizing the government and eliminating budget gimmicks.
