Northrop Grumman Wins Contract to Resolve US Navy Drone System Defects

US aerospace giant Northrop Grumman received a $9.5 million contract to develop software to address programming deficiencies within the Navy’s Triton surveillance drone, the Department of Defense said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Triton will support a wide range of missions for the US Navy, including maritime intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance patrol; signals intelligence; search and rescue; and communications relay, the Defense Department stated.

"Northrop Grumman Systems Corp [of] San Diego, California, is being awarded a $9,580,754 cost-plus-fixed-fee order… for the design, development, analysis, integration, and test software associated with vehicle management software correction of deficiencies and incorporation of multi-integration configuration updates into the MQ-4C Triton Unmanned Aircraft System," the release stated on Monday.

The order also provides for analysis and design concepts to integrate an Automatic Response Module based on the Airborne Collision Avoidance System Xu, the release added.

On September 27, the Defense Department announced that Northrop Grumman Systems had received a more than $255 million contract for the production and support of three MQ-4C Triton drones.
