Russia fulfills all decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), but wants to be protected from politicized ones, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – In July 2014, Europe’s top human rights court ruled that Russia must pay about $2 billion to shareholders of the country’s now-defunct energy company Yukos that was declared bankrupt in 2006 and absorbed into state-owned Rosneft.

The Russian Justice Ministry said it would not comply since the court’s decision violated Russia’s constitution.

"When a real politicization of the court’s decisions takes place, we want to be protected from outright politicization," Lavrov said at a press conference following talks with Council of Europe’s Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland.
