Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran and China try to raise the economic relations between the two countries to a strategic level.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Iran is seeking to become China's strategic economic partner, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Monday.

"We try to raise the economic relations between the two countries to a strategic level," Zarif said as quoted by Tasnim news agency, upon his arrival in Beijing for a two-day visit.

The minister is accompanied by a delegation of business people and entrepreneurs.

The decision to establish the mechanism of annual Iran-China meetings, aimed at strengthening strategic mutual trust between the two countries, was made in late January during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Iran.
