Russia-US Relations Under Trump: 'There Will Be Dialogue and Agreements'
In an interview with Sputnik Italia, Tiberio Graziani, President of the Institute of Geopolitics and Applied Sciences, pointed out "very interesting aspects" pertaining to global security and the Moscow-Washington relations which were mentioned by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his State of the Nation Address to Russia's Federal Assembly on December 1.

Graziani recalled that in his speech, Putin specifically said that "unlike our foreign colleagues, who see Russia as an enemy, we do not seek and have never sought enemies, we need friends."

"The world has known such a position for 17 years now; it has been known since Putin's first presidential term. Putin's Russia has never tried to seize the West's territories, and we heard Putin confirm it in the December 1 speech," he said.

As for relations between Russia and the United States, they can be normalized under Trump, Graziani said referring to Michael Flynn, Trump's newly appointed national security adviser.

"Now let's see who will be engaged in international politics in Trump's team," Graziani added.

"Very interesting aspects of Putin's address were related to global security. It is impossible to imagine global security without the equal participation of Russia," he said pointing to "the growing importance of the Eurasian Economic Union which is becoming more and more political," he said.

Graziani attributed it to Putin's policy on Central Asia and Asia on the whole which has been pursued for a long time now.

"The second important aspect is security in the Asia-Pacific region and, consequently, Russia's relations with China and Japan," according to Graziani.

"Potential rapprochement between the US and Russia could be useful not only for global security but also for new US-Chinese relations because regional stability will have a global effect, with Russia's international clout expected to increase," he said.

Separately, Graziani recalled that in his speech, Putin said that nobody should prohibit the open expression of political and economic views.

Commenting on Putin warning against introducing censorship in the global information space, Graziani said that "censorship runs counter to principles of democracy."

"In my opinion, none of the EU citizens is obliged to watch Sputnik, RT or other Russian media outlets; they watch them by their own free-will. If there is freedom of information, there should be the right to inform," he said.

Russia Hopes Dialogue With US on Adopted Children to Restart Under Trump
Speaking to Sputnik Brazil, Diego Pautasso, expert on Russia from Unisinos University, said for his part that Putin's State of the Nation Address "confirms Russia's desire to restore its relations with the United States.

"My only doubts pertain to the State Department, the CIA and the power bodies which will certainly put pressure on the US President-elect."

"[Russia's] cooperation with the United States includes the fight against terrorism and a political solution to international crises, especially in Syria. It also includes increased trust, namely, non-interference in the affairs related to the direct spheres of the superpowers' influence. Additionally, it includes lifting the anti-Russian sanctions which were introduced several years ago," Pautasso said.
