Russian Military Industry Set to Become Driver of Civilian Economy
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least a third of Russia's military-industrial complex output must work for producing civilian products within 10 years, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday.

"We have carried out significant upgrades of military-industrial complex enterprises. It is essential to focus the sector on producing modern, competitive civilian products for healthcare, energy, aviation, shipbuilding, space. Over the next decade, its share must take up no less than one third of the total military-industrial complex output," Putin said in his annual Federal Assembly address.

The share currently stands at just over 16 percent, he specified, adding that the sector is still working mainly to satisfy Defense Ministry orders and will reach the mentioned target no earlier than 2025 before going up to 50 percent by 2030.
