Brett McGurk, the special envoy for the US coalition against Daesh terrorists, announced on Thursday his arrival in Baghdad for consultations regarding the ongoing Mosul offensive.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Iraqi operation to liberate Mosul from terrorists has been ongoing since October 17. The battle for the city began with 4,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters and 30,000 Iraqi soldiers backed by the US-led anti-terror coalition advancing Mosul from the east, west and south.

“Landed in #Baghdad for week of consultations on #Mosul op & longer-term efforts to support #Iraq's stabilization after #ISIL's defeat,” McGurk posted in his Twitter account.

Mosul has been occupied by Daesh, outlawed in Russia, since 2014.
