Scientists Launch Space Junk Project to Raise Awareness of Its Danger
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — More than 2,000 scientists, including 22 Nobel Laureates, have sent an open letter to US President-elect Donald Trump urging the United States to rely on science as a key input in crafting public policy, according to a press release from the advocacy group Union of Concerned Scientists.

"From disease outbreaks to climate change to national security to technology innovation, people benefit when our nation’s policies are informed by science unfettered by inappropriate political or corporate influence," the letter stated on Wednesday.

The letter was prompted by Trump statements questioning the role of human activity in global warming and his threat to withdraw the United States from the 2015 Paris accord on climate change.

In the letter, scientists emphasized that government and private researchers should be allowed to follow scientific evidence, wherever it leads and be allowed to publicly communicate their findings.
