The next international conference on the Israeli-Palestinian peace settlement at the level of foreign ministers is expected to take place on December 23 in Paris, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal told Sputnik on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In late January, France proposed holding an international conference to help resume the stalled Israeli-Palestinian talks. On June 3, Paris hosted the conference of 28 delegations aimed at relaunching the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. The conference's participants assessed the situation that involved possible risks for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Regarding the Paris Conference, it seems that there would be a meeting at a ministerial level on the 23rd of December,” Abdel Hafiz Nofal said.

According to Abdel Hafiz Nofal, the information about the meeting came from the Palestinian ambassador to France.

No representatives of either Israel or Palestine were present at the event.

Palestinians seek diplomatic recognition for their independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which is partially occupied by Israel, and the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government refuses to recognize Palestine as an independent political and diplomatic entity, and builds settlements on the occupied areas, despite objections from the United Nations.
