The Norwegian Supreme Court dismissed on Friday an appeal of US whistleblower Edward Snowden against an earlier court’s ruling to reject his request for protection from possible extradition to the United States in case of visiting Norway, the Supreme Court said in a statement.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On September 28, the Norwegian Court of Appeal took a similar decision considering Snowden’s appeal.

“The Supreme Court of Norway has rejected the appeal regarding Edward Snowden,” press officer of the Supreme Court of Norway Svein Tore Andersen told Sputnik.

Snowden, who had leaked the details about NSA global surveillance operations to the press and received asylum in Russia, was invited to the PEN International ceremony in Norway to accept an award. His lawyers appealed to a Norwegian court for a ruling to prevent the authorities from extraditing Snowden to the United States.

PEN, an international association of writers, poets and journalists, awarded Snowden Ossietzky Prize for his contribution to the freedom of expression.

In the United States, Snowden faces charges of espionage for leaking sensitive documents.
