The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) said Wednesday that it opened two refugees camps in Greece for the Syrians who had escaped their war-torn country, media reported Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The first camp in the Larissa region can house 2,000 people and is equipped with educational, medical and sport facilities, while the second camp can accommodate about 1,000 refugees, The National newspaper reported.

Greece is on the front line of the refugee crisis that Europe is experiencing, as hundreds of thousands of people arrive in the Balkan state crossing the Mediterranean Sea in order to seek asylum in the European Union.

The ongoing violent conflict between the Syrian government and a number of opposition groups, including terrorist organizations, has resulted in thousands of people fleeing the country.
