Trump to Make 'Strategic Mistake' If Cancels Iran Nuclear Deal - Military Aide
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump should withdraw the United States from the multinational deal with Iran over its nuclear program, Senator Tom Cotton said Thursday.

"I will advise Donald Trump to do exactly what he said…which is to dismantle that disastrous deal," Cotton told the audience at an event in Washington, DC sponsored by the publication Defense One.

The Republican, who serves on the Senate’s Armed Services Committee and has been named by US media outlets as a candidate for secretary of defense under Trump, claimed the United States will be "much safer" if the next president fulfills a campaign promise to pull out of the agreement with Iran.

In July 2015, a group of countries known as the P5+1 — China, France, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany — reached an agreement with Iran to ensure its nuclear program remains peaceful, in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions. In January this year, the sanctions were removed after the International Atomic Energy Agency verified Iran’s compliance with the deal.
