The Saudi Arabia air defense forces on Tuesday intercepted a ballistic missile that was fired across the border from the territory of Yemen, the Saudi-led coalition said in a statement.

DUBAI (Sputnik) – The missile was launched toward the Saudi southwestern city of Najran, according to the statement, as cited by the official Saudi Press Agency. According to the Saudi-led coalition, the missile did not cause any damage.

The coalition added that it hit the site from which the missile had been launched.

Since 2014, Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and the Houthi fighters, supported by army units loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

A Saudi Arabia-led coalition has conducted a military operation in Yemen against the Houthis since March 2015. The UN human rights agency OHCHR estimates that Saudi airstrikes have killed at least 4,125 civilians and injured 7,207 in Yemen.
