The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) sent a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urging him to create an egalitarian section at the Western Wall (Kotel) in Jerusalem, stipulated by the agreement announced in January, media reported on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the agreement announced in January and approved by the Cabinet, a permanent space for pluralistic and egalitarian prayer at the Western Wall is set to be created. This is a historical decision as after years of negotiations non-Orthodox communities would be allowed to hold mixed prayer services for men and women.

Pump Down the Volume: Palestinians Say Israeli Bill Will Lead to Religious War

"We recognize that no Israeli leader understands the importance of religious pluralism or has done more in this area than you have. We are sure you can understand the concerns we hear from many in our communities who struggle to understand why the implementation of the historic government resolution to create a space at the Kotel where all Jews are free to worship appears stalled," the letter cited by The Times of Israel said.

The JFNA also stressed in the letter the "growing sense of urgency" to implement the agreement.

In June, a group of Orthodox Jewish organizations filed a petition with Israel’s Supreme Court to prevent the establishment of the egalitarian prayer space.
