Iraqi authorities will carry out the restoration of Mosul under the two-stage plan, developed by the country’s planning ministry, as soon as the city is liberated from the Daesh terrorists, ministry’s spokesman Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi said Tuesday.

DUBAI (Sputnik) — The Daesh terrorist group, outlawed in Russia and multiple other states, overran the northern Syrian city of Mosul in 2014 and declared a caliphate in the captured territories. The Iraqi prime minister announced a campaign on October 17 to reclaim the key Daesh stronghold, with mixed forces of Iraqi army, Kurdish militias and Sunni Arab tribesmen advancing from south, east and north.

“The ministry has prepared a preliminary plan for rebuilding of Mosul and other areas, liberated from the IS [Daesh] militants,” Al-Hindawi said as quoted in the Al-Sabah newspaper.

He said that the reconstruction of the city would be conducted in two stages: the first one would last from one to six months and focus on restoration of city’s water and electricity supplies, healthcare system and cleaning of residential areas.

The second stage will include a restoration of essential infrastructure services and schools, the spokesperson noted.
