Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud held a telephone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump, during which the monarch confirmed Riyadh's aspiration to strengthen the relations with Washington, media reported Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Saudi Arabia’s official news agency SPA, King Salman informed the government about the telephone conversation with Trump during a Cabinet session on Monday.

During the phone conversation with Trump, King Salman confirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to cooperate with the United States in order to promote peace and stability in the Middle East and wished the US people further prosperity under the new president.

According to the media, King Salman has also informed the government about the results of his recent meeting with US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford.

Republican Donald Trump secured a victory in the US presidential election on November 8 with 290 electoral votes against his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton's 232. Trump's inauguration will be held on January 20, 2017.
